DANNY Guthrie is being compared to former Newcastle United favourites Rob Lee and Paul Bracewell by his new boss.
Kevin Keegan praised the former Liverpool player following his first week of training with the Tyneside club.

And the 21-year-old's confidence will have been boosted by the manager's comments.

Speaking to www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk, Keegan said: "Young Danny Guthrie, he's a little bit of a mix, for the older fans, between Paul Bracewell and Rob Lee.

"He's that type of player. Good engine, a very good passer of the ball.

"A link-up player who can get around the field and of course in the Premier League you need that.

"And over time he'll probably learn to play in a defensive-midfield holding position.

"Both of those signings (Guthrie and Gutierrez) I'm really pleased with.

"Obviously, the whole world knows that the squad is too small.

"Every Newcastle fan and the people at the club know that.

"But getting the right players in was always going to be tough because there is a lot of competition for good players."
