NEWCASTLE United appear to have beaten off competition from Arsenal, Tottenham and Portsmouth for a young striker being called the 'new Wayne Rooney'.
The Magpies are reported to be on brink of sealing the signature of promising Plymouth Argyle striker Aaron Spear.

Newcastle director of football Dennis Wise is said to have negotiated the deal for the 15-year-old.

Spear has been a regular for Plymouth's Under-16s.

There are also two countries fighting for Spear's loyalty.

Newcastle are reported to be paying £1m for the player in total, with installments being paid based on number of appearances.
