Twelve cars have been broken into in a county town.
Sometime between Sunday, March 8, and the early hours of Monday, March 9, thieves got into 12 cars and stole a number of items including sat navs, MP3 players, tools, games consoles and money.
The thefts happened to cars parked in The Chase, Link Avenue, Forster Avenue, Ridge Terrace, Netherton Lane, Hazelmere Avenue, Cloverdale and Westlea areas.
Three youths, two aged 15 and a 17-year-old, have been arrested in connection with the thefts and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
A number of the cars that were targeted had been left insecure and officers are urging drivers to remember to lock their vehicles overnight.
Neighbourhood Inspector Trevor Oakley said: “Enquiries are ongoing into this spate of thefts from cars and we have had extra officers in the areas that were targeted speaking to residents and passing on crime prevention advice to motorists.
“Please make sure your car is locked and secure when you park it up overnight. An unlocked car is like an invitation for an opportunist thief and they can strike in seconds.
“Also, remove all valuables when leaving your car. Don’t leave expensive or valuable items out on show and take them inside your home with you.”
Any witnesses are asked to contact police in 101.
