The group, based in Beatrice Street in the town, has been working with the local community to try to get them involved in some fun events.

After receiving funding from Greggs, officials decided to get some of the local children to come along and plant the flowers in the planters in front of their hub.

A group spokesman said: “The turn-out was better than we expected and we put on some party food for everyone and the children each got a little mini greenhouse so they can grow their own seeds.

“It was a great community event in the most deprived area of the Hirst.”
