All about the local bagpipes for guild group

MEMBERS of Cramlington Townswomen’s Guild enjoyed an insightful talk about music and pipes at their February meeting.

Kim Bibby-Wilson gave the group a short history of the pipes.

They were informed that the Northumbrian smallpipes are a melodious, bellows blown bagpipe

They are rather quiet by comparison with other bagpipes and are normally played indoors.

The talk was followed by a demonstration of how the pipes were tuned and how they were played.

The next meeting of Cramlington Townswomen’s Guild will take place on Thursday, March 10, at 7.30pm in Cramlington Village Community Centre.
