Volunteers are needed for a new tea party group to help provide a vital lifeline of friendship to the elderly.
The national charity Contact the Elderly works to relieve the acute loneliness experienced by some older people who live alone.
Its volunteer groups organise free monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties for small groups of people aged 75 and over within their local community, providing a chance for guests to socialise once a month.
Now it is looking for volunteer tea party hosts and drivers in and around the Ashington, Bedlington, Cramlington and Morpeth areas.
Volunteer hosts are required to hold two tea parties a year for a small group of older people and their drivers.
You’ll just need a downstairs loo and an accessible house.
Drivers are needed for a few hours, once a month, to drive one or two older people to and from the tea party and to enjoy a cuppa themselves.
If you are interested in being a host or driver – or if you are an older person who would like to find out more going to the tea parties, contact regional development officer Valerie Walker on 0191 2420186, email valerie.walker@contact-the- elderly.org.uk or visit www.contact-the- elderly.co.uk
