THE Salvation Army has launched its Christmas Present Appeal for 2012 and the Newbiggin group will be holding two events to support the campaign.
The Newbiggin Corps are asking for new, unwrapped gifts for a child aged up to 16 to be handed in at either coffee morning they are running or a special service – both taking place this weekend.
On Saturday, the coffee morning is on from 10am to noon at the Salvation Army Community Hall in Vernon Place.
Then on Sunday, a service will be held at the organisation’s Worship Hall in Front Street from 4pm.
Local Salvation Army representatives will then distribute the gifts to children and families in need in the area through their own networks, local groups and social services.
Captain Ann Montgomery, corps officer at Newbiggin, said: “Thanks to the generosity of people in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea last year, The Salvation Army collected many toys and distributed them to people and families in this area who might otherwise have struggled at Christmas.”
Newbiggin Salvation Army will also be holding its annual Christmas Carol Service in the town on Sunday, December 16, at its hall.
The service will commence at 4pm and will feature the band and choir.
