A social housing firm is celebrating after winning an award for equality.
The Bernicia Group enjoyed a successful night at the North East Equality Awards 2014 as they won the award for ‘Outstanding Contribution by a Larger Organisation’.
The awards recognise the achievements of local organisations, individuals and groups in embedding equality and diversity in day to day working practices leading the way to a fairer future for all.
Andrea Johnson, head of operations at Equality North East, said: “Bernicia Group is an organisation that truly embeds equality, diversity and inclusion in their day to day practices and service delivery, going over and above the sector norms.
“Its award-winning Learning Hive in Newbiggin supports unemployed learners to gain employability skills and establish the first step on a career path and secure their future and homes.”
“A well-deserved winner.”
Sue Harding-Smith, Bernicia’s learning and development manager, added: “We have developed our knowledge, experience and expertise in all areas of Equality and Diversity and will continue to strengthen our approach by looking at new ways of making the difference in future.”
