Awards aim to recognise spirit in the community

RESIDENTS in Blyth are being recognised for their efforts to improve their community.

Homes for Northumberland has launched the Spirit of the Community Awards.

The initiative is split into five categories, including the good neighbour award and the young person of the year award.

Successful nominees will be honoured at Blyth Civic Centre in November.

Homes for Northumberland managing director Ray Boycott said: “There are so many unsung heroes among tenants who give up their own time to help others.

“We hope these awards will enable those people to be recognised and get the credit they deserve for making the communities a better place to live.”

To make a nomination call (01670) 542424, and the deadline is Friday, October 28.

All applicants must be a county council tenant or in a council property.
