The High Sheriff of Northumberland has celebrated the end of his shrieval year with an awards presentation to celebrate the achievements of young people across the county.

During the year, John Carr-Ellison gave 63 awards to young community groups in Northumberland totalling £37,400 through the High Sheriff of Northumberland Fund at the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.

More than 200 adults and young people enjoyed a ceremony where TV presenter Alexander Armstrong delivered a video message, and Blyth Spartans FC chairman Tony Platten gave an address about how through determination and hard work young people can achieve their goals and help make the county a great place to live.

Mr Carr-Ellison said: “During my year I had the privilege of meeting and engaging with a wide range of inspirational young people, it was an honour to be able to recognise this work.”
