NEWBIGGIN Maritime Centre was praised by judges at this year’s Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors North East Renaissance Awards.
The centre was highly commended at the awards ceremony, held at Newcastle Civic Centre.
Richard Martin, chairman of Newbiggin Heritage Partnership, said: “The award is a fantastic acknowledgement of this regeneration project.
“The award is also an acknowledgement of the dedicated work by a small group of volunteers, our partners in funding and supporters, our technical and construction partners, along with the continued valuable work by the maritime centre operational team.”
The seaside centre is now out to build on that success by extending its opening hours on Friday and Saturday nights throughout May.
Centre manager Crystal Hinds said: “We are responding directly to the requests of our visitors and have been overwhelmed by their support since we opened in July last year.
“We are excited about opening later as so many visitors to Northumberland have suggested that they would like to have things to do when they are here in the evening.”
