A barbershop quartet were the stars of the show as a county academy staged its first ever Christmas gathering for people with dementia and their carers.

The New Monics, who are all members of Backworth Male Voice Choir, set the tone for the gathering at Blyth Academy, which also saw students entertain people from across Blyth who are living with the condition as part of the academy’s campaign to be dementia-friendly which they are spearheading with Alzheimer’s Society staff.

Alzheimer’s Society media officer Rob Stewart, who attended the Christmas gathering, said: “The staff and students at Blyth Academy are clearly bending over backwards to be a dementia-friendly school and to make sure that people with dementia and their carers got their Christmas festivities off to a great start.”
