MAY I offer, on behalf of the president, officials and members of the Rotary Club of Blyth, sincere thanks to the townspeople of Blyth for their fantastic response to our appeal for old spectacles.
Since the beginning of September we have received 393 pairs, probably our highest monthly collection ever, a tremendous effort indeed.
The appeal was launched in 1989, and since that time a total of 32,190 pairs of old spectacles have been handed in, almost 1,500 per year.
Once collected they are taken to a local optical firm to be graded, cleaned and repaired before being sent to Third World countries.
Our thanks also to the volunteer staff at the Oxfam charity shop who act as a collection point.
We need all the help we can get in this ongoing rotary project so do hand in your unwanted specs and be assured they will be put to good use.
Anyone willing to assist with collection should contact the club secretary, Michael Jackson on (01670) 353844 or any member of Blyth Rotary Club.
