Residents on a Northumberland estate have called for speed limits to be lowered.

More than 200 people living on Totnes Drive and Ringwood Drive, on the Parkside Grange and Glade estates in Cramlington, have signed a petition organised by former police officers Christine and Norman Dunbar calling for the speed limit to be reduced to 20mph.

There are 20mph zones around Cramlington and I think we need to make sure that our roads are safe

Christine Dunbar

Christine said: “Local people have been telling me that speeding is a real issue and there is real concern that someone could get hit by a speeding car.

“I have been so impressed by the support people have shown by helping me get signatures. This shows a real commitment to try to solve this issue before there is an accident.”

Christine will be presenting the petition to Northumberland County Council.

She added: “There are 20mph zones around Cramlington and I think we need to make sure that our roads are safe. I really hope the County Council and the local town council will support the wishes of local people.

“This is about preventing an accident and making where we live safer for everyone.

“The local people want it and I want Cramlington to be a safe place for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.”
