Macmillan Cancer Support has been given a belated 100th birthday boost by staff at G4S Utility Services.
The power-metering and data collection firm, based at Cobalt Business Park in North Shields, raised £2,248 last year to mark the centenary of the charity.
G4S bosses Steve Cole and Sue McGarvie organised fundraising activities throughout the year, including raffles and team challenges.
Steve said: “We really enjoyed taking part in the challenge, and we didn’t expect to raise so much money so fast.
“So many people are affected by cancer in many ways, so I think that it was something close to a lot of the staff, and everyone was keen to get involved.”
Kelly Knighting-Wykes, a fundraising manager for the charity, said: “We really appreciate G4S and its staff getting involved and raising such a fantastic amount of money in our centenary year.
“Macmillan has been providing services to cancer patients and their families since 1911 and relies on support from companies like G4S to ensure we continue to be there for the two million people living with cancer across the UK.”
Other firms wanting to help out too can take part in a new Apprentice-style challenge being launched by Macmillan.
