The 5th Cramlington Brownies group is celebrating its 40th birthday.
The group has met at the town’s Shanklea Primary School every Tuesday evening for the past 40 years, and it held a celebratory holiday at Pasture House in Northumberland, near Whittonstall, to celebrate.
“Our theme was cupcakes and afternoon tea,” said brown owl Sarah Atkinson.
She has run the unit, along with Rachel Morgan and Fiona Fisher, for the past 16 years.
“The original unit guider, Anne Harvey, kindly made and decorated a cake for our celebrations, which the girls loved,” added Sarah.
Anne opened the unit with Sylvia Stewart on June 17, 1975, and both are still members of the Trefoil Guild, an adult version of the guides.
Some 18 girls from the unit went on the holiday weekend and enjoyed baking, making bunting and a variety of crafts and outdoor games.
The trip was followed up with a party back at the school.
“I can’t wait for next year’s adventure,” said Hannah Atkinson, seven, one of the Brownies’ newest recruits.
