A popular service in Newbiggin on Sunday signals the countdown to the lifeboat day event the following weekend.

The Blessing of the Lifeboat will take place outside the station at Sandridge from 3pm, with the service undertaken by Newbiggin lifeboat Chaplain Rev Peter Sinclair.

This is an established tradition in the lifeboat calendar. Refreshments will be served in the lifeboat station after the blessing.

On Newbiggin Lifeboat Day – Sunday, July 31 – there will be a variety of stalls and attractions in and around the lifeboat station as well as displays and demonstrations undertaken by the lifeboat, subject to operational demands throughout the afternoon.

The event begins at 1.30pm and throughout the afternoon, Koast Radio will be broadcasting live on the adjacent sea front with support from DJ John from Britain’s Got Talent.

The boathouse will be serving a selection of home-made cakes and scones along with hot and cold drinks.
