An Ashington care home is top of the plots after claiming a national gardening award.
Woodhorn Park Care Home has won the Community Garden of the Year award at Barchester in Bloom.
The national honour follows success in the regional heats earlier this year and recognises the community effort that has gone into improving the grounds and the features that pay tribute to the area’s mining and fishing heritage.
General manager Joanne Young said: “Thank you to all the local individuals and organisations who have helped us to develop our award-winning garden, and a special thanks to the maintenance manager Robert Clark for his hard work.”
The garden includes a boat filled with flowers, donated by Central First School, and a pit wheel and coal tub, donated by Portland opencast.
Barchester in Bloom is organised by care provider Barchester Healthcare to promote the imaginative planting of flowers, trees and shrubs in the outdoor spaces of its homes to create positive environments for residents and relatives.
