Last weekend I discovered the Sea Battery at South Beach, Blyth and what a surprise it was.
I was pleasantly met and shown around by Major (Rtd.) Ron Goodwinson who obviously knows his subject. My wife was shown around by another and thoroughly enjoyed her visit.
I encourage any old servicemen, and indeed anyone wanting to see something a little different, to pay the Battery a visit.
The Battery is to the right of the children’s playground (facing out to sea) and involves climbing a few steps, is free and open most weekends.
My opening paragraph, re discovering the battery, prompts me to add why is ‘The Battery’ not more openly publicised? It is an asset to the town and I fully intend to pay a further visit.
