Northumberland County Council has met with officials from the Department of Transport in further talks about the future of the A1 north of Newcastle.
Senior officials at the council have been involved in the discussions as part of a national series of feasibility studies that are looking to tackle some of the most notorious road hot spots in the country. As part of the process a study will look at the problems facing the A1 north of Newcastle and attempt to find potential schemes to solve them.
The feasibility study will look in detail at establishing a case for dualling the remainder of the A1 in Northumberland and try to identify specific road investments along that stretch of the network. The council is part of a group of stakeholders who hope to complete the feasibility study by autumn of this year.
