Accountancy qualifications are now available throughout the county.
That increased availability has been made possible by Northumberland College joining forces with the Association of Accounting Technicians.
The qualifications had previously only been on offer at the college’s main campus in Ashington but can now be taken in Newcastle, Berwick and Hexham too.
Patrick O’ Doherty, head of the college’s school of business and accounting, said: “We have run these courses successfully now for many years, but this is the first time we have run them outside the Ashington campus.
“By operating a centre in Newcastle, we are bringing accounting qualifications into the heart of the commercial sector of the region.
“We are looking forward to this exciting development and being able to work so closely with such a renowned organisation as AAT.”
AAT is the UK’s leading vocational accounting and finance skills qualifications and membership body.
Its qualifications give students practical skills to work in a range of finance and accounting jobs.
Susana Williams, its regional account manager, said: “Accountancy and finance is a continued successful growth area for the UK economy.
“This is an exciting time for AAT, with Northumberland College becoming an Accountancy Centre of Excellence in Newcastle, helping to develop and upskill those living in the north east.
“I am delighted to be part of this exciting journey with Northumberland College.”
The college is one of 500 training providers worldwide approved by AAT.
