Small businesses have proved they have a big role to play in the county after walking away with two awards.

First4Websites was awarded the Micro to Small Business of the Year Award in the Rural category.

Based in Berwick, First4Websites provides the best range of high quality website services in the north east, including website design, advanced online marketing and corporate branding.

Director Sarah Williams said: “I am absolutely delighted to have won this award. It has been a big team effort.

“We have 100 per cent renewal of our client base and we are delighted to receive this award for them.

And Solar Capture Technologies, the only manufacturer of high quality photovoltaic devices in the UK, was named Micro to Small Business of the Year for south east Northumberland, sponsored by Bernicia.

The Blyth-based company was originally part of the National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec), before become a completely independent organisation.

Chief executive Steven Caseley said: “I am delighted to have won.

“We want to take the business on to the next level and this is absolutely fantastic.”

Other shortlisted businesses were Longmere Consultants, Cramlington Kids Club, ABS Business and Stephenson Precision Components.
