County back awards to honour best

A new sponsor has come on board to support this year’s Best of Northumberland Awards.

Organised by Northeast Press, publishers of the News Post Leader, Morpeth Herald and Northumberland Gazette, alongside Tweeddale Press’s Berwick Advertiser, the Best of Northumberland, formerly called Pride, recognises ordinary people for doing extraordinary things.

Now Northumberland County Council is backing the event.

The council is sponsoring the community group category, which recognises the hard work of teams across the county.

Northumbrian people care about their community. We have a strong sense of where we come from and what we stand for.

That means a commitment to looking out for each other and, often, it involves contributing to what’s going on locally.

Communities rely on people who give their time and effort for the good of others.

Now is the chance for you to nominate a community group you think deserves some applause.

They could be named the Community Group of the Year and receive their award at the prestigious Best of Northumberland Awards 2014.

Coun Grant Davey, leader of Northumberland County Council, said: “As a council, we recognise and appreciate the huge contribution made by community groups.

“Why not nominate your favourite group for some well-deserved recognition.”

There are ten categories for which you can nominate individuals and groups.

A shortlist will be drawn up for each category and the winners will be announced at a special ceremony at Alnwick Garden on Thursday, September 18.
