A host of new apprentices have joined a housing firm’s award winning apprenticeship scheme.
Bernicia has welcomed seven new apprentices to its team, who will work in a variety of teams including business support, ICT, housing and customer service as well as plumbing and electrical.
Debra Beattie, head of organisational development at Bernicia, said the firm was delighted to have taken on the new apprentices.
“As a company we are committed to investing in young people,” she said.
“We look at our apprenticeships as long ter, giving young people the opportunity to learn new skills in the work environment.”
As part of their induction the apprentices enjoyed a tour of Bernicia properties throughout the north east including Bowmont House, the company’s extra care scheme at Newcastle Great Park.
The new apprentices areLauren Thoburn, Robert Storey, Chris Mould, Yasmin Hogg, David Warwick, Ryan Wilkinson, and Nicola Millican.
Yasmin Hogg, business and administration apprentice, said: “It was great to meet the other apprentices at the same stage of the process as me and I found the day really useful and informative.
“I liked being able to actually see some of the properties Bernicia have created and manage.
“I have spent a lot of time talking about these properties on the phone and now I can picture what they actually look like.
“This was just the first of many activities that Bernicia has planned for the apprentices, to ensure they all get the most out of their time with the company.”
