Bid to improve county’s tourism strategy

TOURISM bosses have come together in a bid to improve the management of Northumberland’s multi-million pound tourism industry.

A shadow board has been set up to oversee the transition to new arrangements for the delivery of tourism in the county over the next four to six months.

The Shadow Board of Northumberland Visitor Economy Partnership (NVEP) was established to prepare for major funding changes to tourism with the closure of One North East in March 2012.

The visitor partnership board includes representatives from Northumbrian Water Alnwick Castle and Garden, English Heritage, Northumberland County Council, Northumberland National Park Authority and Newcastle International Airport.

Chairman David Hall said: “We are developing new ways of working to attract greater investment from the private sector and create a strong private and public sector partnership.”
