Family fun combined with search for a job

A FAMILY fun day is being held to help those out of work and looking for new employment.

Bad Apples North East is hosting an employment and education family fun day at Newbiggin Leisure Centre on Sunday, February 26.

The aim is to promote the job opportunities that are still out there, with a number of employers looking for new recruits in attendance as well as officials from training companies.

There will also be representatives from community groups looking for volunteers who can gain experience and qualifications in exchange for time.

Caroline Ball, who runs Bad Apples, said: “We are all very aware of the economic downturn and people losing jobs, but not a lot seems to be going on to motivate people and have a positive feedback.

“At Bad Apples we want to promote the opportunities that are still out there.

“We combined the event with a family fun day so people with children or who sometimes feel intimidated by an employment based event can come along, have the kids entertained and maybe find a new opportunity.”

The free event will take place at the leisure centre from 1pm to 4pm.

There will also be a local community radio station in attendance, dance sessions, DJ workshops and fitness class trials.

Caroline added: “The north east has some great people and we want to remind people how good they are and the potential they have for a brighter future.”

Anyone who wants more information or companies interested in attending should e-mail info@badapplesne.co.uk or call (01670) 528414.

Bad Apples North East – which won the Safer Community Award at the Pride of Northumberland 2011 and the Business in the Community Award at the Northumberland Business Awards 2011 – was created to bring entertainment, education, employment and opportunity to 12 to 17-year-olds in the north east, organising events and workshops in the region.
