A FORMER hotel looks set to be demolished to make way for a storage area for the Port of Blyth.

The Ridley Park Hotel in Wensleydale Terrace closed last September after the building was taken over by the Blyth Harbour Authority.

A planning application has now been submitted to Northumberland County Council for a change of use from a licenced premises to the storage of cargo as part of operational land withing South Harbour.

As well as demolishing the building, the proposal includes replacing the existing palisade fence to match the port’s security fence along Wensleydale Terrace.

Once known as the Gwentland Hotel, the establishment had eight bedrooms, two bars and a games room.

The decision will be taken under delegated powers by March 13.
