Views are sought on windfarms
COUNTY residents are being urged to have their say about future windfarm development.
And a member of Northumberland County Council’s executive has also called on opposition councillors to respond to the public consultation launched by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
Hundreds of people have already put forward their opinions about the issue at a local level as part of the authority’s Core Strategy consultation.
Executive member for planning Tom Brechany said: “I hope that people in Northumberland who have views on onshore wind power, regardless of which side of the debate they fall on, will take the opportunity to let the government know their views on this matter, which is of such importance to the future of our county.”
At a meeting of the full council in September, Coun Glen Sanderson put forward a motion which called for the cumulative impact of the structures to be considered, a greater distance from homes imposed and the government to slash drastically the subsidies to onshore wind turbines.
This motion was defeated by 40 votes to 13 by members.
Coun Brechany added: “We have said consistently that Conservative councillors who were urging the council to act on the spur of the moment should wait for the Core Strategy to be finalised and published.
“I would urge those councillors to submit evidence to DECC as well.”
The national consultation about onshore wind development will close on November 15.
