New shops are aiming to bring more choice to a community in Cramlington.
Planning permission has been granted by Northumberland County Council for the two new units to be built on open land next to Dewley outdoor centre.
Panos Papaioannou, who submitted the application, says there is already a lot of interest in the units.
The director of PanPan Properties Ltd, which owns the land, said: “This is an exciting development which will bring more facilities to the residents in the area, which there is a lack of at the moment.
“There are already four shops there but this will add to the range and choice.
“The council did not receive any letters of objection, just letters of support.
“I’d welcome any interest from businesses who would like to set up in there.
“We’ve already had a few companies express an interest, including an ice cream parlour and a fish and chip shop.”
Construction is expected to be finished by the autumn.
