Planners will be considering an application to turn Blyth’s former Wallaw Cinema in to a pub – which would create 19 full and part-time jobs.
JD Wetherspoon purchased the Grade II listed Art Deco building, which has stood empty since 2004, last summer.
And now the pub chain, known for acquiring unique and unusual buildings, including the former fire station in Whitley Bay and Hexham’s Forum cinema, wants to bring the premises back in to use.
Northumberland County Council has received an application for planning permission to change the use of the building, as well as listed buildings consent for alterations.
The proposals include the demolition of the single-storey extension at the front of the building, in Union Street, and the creation of an external drinking area.
