An Ashington-based housing company is feeling the buzz after winning an award.

Bernicia won the ‘Most Creative Project’ at the Silver Screen awards hosted by the Northern Housing Consortium.

Their project, titled ‘What’s the Buzz at the Hive’, was created following a complete transformation of a former community house by a team of apprentice recruits, volunteers and sponsors.

The Learning Hive offers educational programmes by professional tutors.

Jeannie McMillan, operations director, housing services at Bernicia, said “We’re delighted the Learning Hive has received the recognition it deserves by winning this award.

“Our film captured the creative ways in which the Hive was developed and learning is delivered and shows how people have engaged with and benefitted from the services offered, proving that a small project can make a big difference.”
