A doctor is in the pink after raising almost £2,500 for charity in memory of his late mum.

Mike Wilkinson held a fundraising event at Ashington Football Club’s clubhouse as part of Breast Cancer Now’s Wear It Pink campaign, amassing £2,478.

The fundraiser was the second held by Dr Wilkinson, a junior doctor at the new emergency care hospital at Cramlington and North Tyneside General Hospital in North Shields, in memory of his mum, Carole Elliott, of Stobhill, Morpeth.

Mrs Elliott died of breast cancer in August last year at the age of 49.

His first, held last year at New Hirst and District Social Club in Ashington, raised more than £1,800.
