Cannabis farm found after report of burglary

A CANNABIS farm was uncovered at a house in Ashington after police responded to reports of a burglary in the property.

Officers from Northumbria Police attended the address in Park Villas in the early hours of Thursday, May 17, following reports of an insecure door.

When they arrived they found the property had been burgled.

But while carrying out an investigation and securing the address they discovered the cannabis farm in the loft space.

Enquiries are now taking place into the cannabis farm.

A police spokesman said: “We received a report of an insecure premises in Park Villas, Ashington.

“Officers attended and found that a burglary had occurred at the address.

“While carrying out enquiries, a number of cannabis plants were found inside.

“One man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”

Neighbours were left stunned by the police raid on the house in the early hours as they began to recover the cannabis plants from inside.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “We watched the raid on the house.

“The police had gone to board it up following the burglary but then found the cannabis farm.”
