An enterprise supporting youngsters in and around Ashington has scooped a top regional award.

Real Deal Plus, which operates from the Ashington Life Centre based in the former police station, was the proud recipient of the top Award at the High Sheriff of Northumberland’s Youth Against Crime Awards.

Teen Bar members Josh Plummer and Michael Charlton collected both a certificate and also the top prize of £2,000 from High Sheriff Willy Browne-Swinburne and the Duchess of Northumberland at the awards ceremony.

The High Sheriff of Northumberland Awards recognise local youth organisations and their leaders who work hard to engage young people in healthy, constructive and interesting activities which in turn help to reduce anti-social behaviour and promote good citizenship.

The Real Deal Plus Teen Bar Printing Enterprise helps young people develop business skills and creativity.

They are able to design, print and take orders for mugs, T-shirts, key rings, car sun shades, phone or tablet covers and more.

It helps equip them with a range of skills including market research, costings/profit margins, marketing, ordering, design and customer service.

Real Deal Plus chief executive Davey Falcus said: “The award of £2,000 will help us to purchase resources for future activities, and we would like to give a huge thank you to both the Community Foundation and to Willy Browne-Swinburne, the High Sheriff of Northumberland.”
