A fundraising month has helped raise vital cash for two charities.

Specsavers in Ashington held two fundraising events last month in aid of the special care baby unit at Wansbeck General Hospital and the Northumberland County Blind Association, raising £110 in the process.

A children’s fun day saw staff dress up as different characters from books and films.

And staff then took part in a one-and-a-half mile blindfolded walk along the promenade at Newbiggin.

Specsavers store manager Carly Fitch said: “The blindfolded walk was a daunting experience, it really put into perspective the difficulties that blind and partially sighted people face every day.”

She added: “I would like to thank all of the staff for their participation and enthusiasm for both events.

“I also want to say a big thank you to all our customers for their generous donations – we really do appreciate their continued support.”
