A couple are celebrating after waltzing their way to 60 years of happy marriage.
George and Violet Oakley, of Dereham Road, Seaton Sluice, first met through friends in 1946 when Violet was a pupil at Blyth Grammar School.
They were married in St Cuthbert’s Church, Blyth, on May 30, 1953, and enjoyed a honeymoon in London.
George, 83, and Violet, 81, have two children, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
They celebrated their diamond anniversary with a party at Oxford Street Methodist Church in Whitley Bay, where they have run a dance evening for 13 years.
They received flowers and money from friends.
Violet said: “We don’t really have any tips or advice about reaching a diamond anniversary.
“We’re just ordinary people doing ordinary things.
“We both love dancing.”
