PRIMARY school children will move into a new £50m all-age academy this week.

The new William Leach Campus in Lynemouth is now open for business.

Frank Jordan, head of commercial and property services at Northumberland County Council, handed over the keys to the new building to Phil Hearne, executive director of the Northumberland Church of England Academy, this week.

The academy caters for pupils aged three to 18 on five sites in Ashington, Lynemouth and Newbiggin.

After pupils move into the new building in Lynemouth this week, work will begin on demolishing the existing school.

The academy will provide secondary, primary and special needs education at the Josephine Butler Campus in Ashington and further primary education at its William Leach Campus, its Grace Darling Campus in Newbiggin and James Knott and Thomas Bewick campuses in Ashington.
