A member of the public feared a dog that was swimming in the sea appeared to be getting tired and into difficulty.

She raised the alarm and Humber Coastguard paged Blyth coastguard officers to attend.

However, as the team mustered at the station the good news came in that the dog had made its own way back to safety of the beach and its owner.

The team was stood down.
