TWO colleagues are preparing to pound the street as they go head-to-head for charity.
Sarah Harper and Richard Leslie, who work at Cramlington-based e-procurement company Due North, are both taking part in this year’s Great North Run.
Marketing co-ordinator Sarah, who will be competing in her third run, has also completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and the Race for Life this year.
She is raising money for the Butterwick Hospice.
And she has set herself the challenge of beating Richard, the company’s e-sourcing solutions manager, who is raising money for the Salvation Army.
Sarah, who is hoping to raise more than £1,000, said: “I enjoy taking part in the Great North Run, not for the running, but because I’m doing it for such a worthwhile cause.
“The Butterwick Hospice cared for my mum’s best friend when she was ill, and seeing the support they provide first-hand has given me the motivation to run the race again on their behalf.”
Richard said: “As Sarah and I have both taken part in the Great North Run before, we thought that we would add a competitive element to the day by directly racing against each other.
“Although we’re aiming to out-do each other, Sarah’s support has made such a difference and we keep each other motivated by reminding ourselves of the end goal.”
