The magic of Christmas was delivered in Newbiggin courtesy of the Newbiggin Portas Town Team and Churches Together.
The Christmas story was re-enacted by local members of the community, including real donkeys and children, to a soundtrack of traditional carols sung by the community choir in the piazza.
Audiences watched as Mary and Joseph and their donkey knocked on the door of Bertorelli’s cafe and were offered the newly converted stable in the bandstand where they were joined by shepherds and wise men, and at one point a group of angels appeared near the sea wall to create the Living Nativity.
Peter Sinclair, vicar of St Bartholomew’s, said: “The community were very involved in this event.
“Many people volunteered their time and worked hard to put on the Living Nativity, and we are very grateful for their help.”
