Grants of almost £40,000 have been awarded to two community groups in south east Northumberland.
The Peoples Health Trust has announced that Cowpen Quay Community Association will receive a grant of £23,744, and East Hartford Community Association will be awarded £15,675.
The funding will enable Cowpen Quay Community Association, based at the Buffalo Centre in Blyth, to set up a new self-sustaining group for women aged 20 to 60 from ethnic minorities.
Centre manager Eileen Cartie said: “This money will provide a sense of belonging in order to tackle exclusion.
“The group will meet on a weekly basis and will run short courses such as confidence building and parenting. We hope it will become a meeting point for women who move into the local area.”
East Hartford Community Association’s grant will enable it to organise and run activities for the whole community.
