Community litter pick for village

A community litter pick is taking place this weekend to help spruce up an area of the county.

A team of volunteers will be getting into the thick of it on Saturday, May 16, to help clear the area around New Hartley ponds.

The group is asking residents to meet at the Memorial Hall on Saturday at 10.30am.

Jeremy Hayes, from the group, said: “We are keen to raise local awareness and we are providing all pupils at New Hartley First School with a poster.

“Our prime target is the area around the New Hartley Ponds.

“This is an area of special scientific interest because it has traditionally been home to a colony of greater crested newts, but these days it just seems to be becoming a dumping ground for rubbish.
