Community team’s work is honoured

A rugby league club have been honoured in London for their work in the community.

Rockets Community made the trip to London last week to receive their ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award in recognition of their work in the North East Schools Rugby League.

The gala presentation ceremony took place in Richmond, where the Championship Schools National Finals were also taking place in an action-packed day of rugby league’s finest from across the UK.

The team were then guest of honours at the Challenge Cup Final the following day at Wembley Stadium.

Rockets Community is the schools-based arm of rugby league club, Cramlington Rockets and delivers coaching and advice on sport and healthy living to children across the North East, in schools and at their regular school holiday camps.

Community Manager, Steven Beaty and Head Community Coach, Danny Gilroy made the trip south to collect the award for all their hard work in the last twelve months.

Steve said: “It means a lot to receive this award. We work with so many good people who support what we are trying to achieve and it is as much an award for them as it is for us. It has really given us a boost to make things even bigger and better.”

Club chairman, Jeff Ball, added: “The work they do is amazing and this first year has been beyond anything we had planned. The team has worked so hard to get us this far and we have some exciting things planned for year two.”
