Campaigners fighting proposals to bring open cast mining to Druridge Bay are hoping for more exposure for their cause as they launch a photographic competition.

Amateur photographers are being urged to send in photos that showcase the coastal area of Druridge Bay and the surrounding area that could be lost if open cast mining gets the green light.

Organisers are encouraging snappers to send in images that highlight the diversity of the natural environment, show people enjoying the beach and ‘Beach Life’ activities.

The photos must be taken in the area between Druridge Pools and Cresswell Village along the coast and inland as far as Widdrington Village and the A1068 Coast Road.

There are three age categories, under 11, 12 to 18 and over 18, and photos must be submitted to sdphotocomp@btinternet.com
