Children receiving treatment at Wansbeck General Hospital will benefit from a cash donation of more than £1,300 from the new Akzo Nobel paint factory in Ashington.
Sir Robert McAlpine and subcontractors on the development presented £1,381 to the children’s assessment unit, run by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Staff at the unit thanked the companies for the donation and said the money will go towards improving children’s experiences of receiving care in the hospital.
A spokesman for Sir Robert McAlpine said: “As a company committed to supporting and working with the communities in which we operate, we are delighted to be able to hand over £1,381 to the children’s assessment unit at Wansbeck General Hospital.
“Along with our client and the contractors who have worked with us on the Akzo Nobel plant, we wanted to make a contribution towards the community we have worked within for the last 18 months and believe the unit will benefit local people long into the future.”
Those who contributed to the donation were: Sir Robert McAlpine, Akzo Nobel, Brambledown, Mac Security, Joyce CC, Integral UK, Ivanhoe Forge, Topside Group, John Aynsley (Architectural Metalwork) and Hathaway Roofing.
Northumbria Healthcare’s Bright Charity, which works to provide the extras that are not usually funded by the NHS but which ensure patients of all ages have the best experience possible in hospital, will improve the facility.
