Council grants to help community projects flourish

Community groups across the county are being offered funding to help deliver projects through a special fund that is being run by Northumberland County Council.

The council’s community chest scheme aims to support activities that will benefit and are needed by local communities. It is open to any voluntary or community, not-for-profit groups or organisations based in, or predominantly serving Northumberland.

The money can be used for a range of purposes including events, or for the purchase of equipment. Grants of up to £10,000 are available and there is no minimum amount for applications.

The community chest fund will support one off initiatives, including those that will help support the development of sustainable long term projects that are seen as valuable to the area.

Priority will be given to projects that are submitted by small community groups and groups that have not received a grant from this fund in the past and for initiatives.

There will be three funding rounds over the year, and the deadline for the next round of applications is January 9.

The applications will be considered by funding panels made up of councillors from across the county.
