A horse trained in Northumberland has been declared a non-runner in tomorrow’s Grand National.

Carlito Brigante has performed well in big races since being taken on by Karen McLintock, who is based at the Byerley Stud in Ingoe (located to the south west of Belsay).

For example, the nine-year-old won the Barmoor Handicap Chase at Kelso in October.

He was slightly lame this morning and following a veterinary check, a decision was made not to risk him in the £1million event at Aintree, which is run over four miles and three-and-a-half furlongs.
