A CRICKET club has raised £300 for a toy library after hearing all about the charity’s work.
The library, based in Ashington, is managed by volunteers, with four part-time members of staff and 20 volunteers delivering the toy lending service.
The service enables children and families to borrow toys, games, musical instruments, sports equipment and equipment for children with additional needs.
The donation from Ashington Cricket Club will enable the charity to buy further toys.
Community development worker Ann Widdrington said: “We are very grateful for this kind donation.
“We rely totally on grants and funding to continue to provide this valuable service to our community.
“This donation will enable us to buy more loan toys to add to the library.”
Martin Thewlis, chairman of Ashington Cricket Club, said: “The cricket club has regular social events and we often run a raffle to fund the work we do without juniors, but we felt that we should look to support a local charity and we chose the toy library because it really helps children and their families.”
Martin added: “Our guests and members donated raffle prizes that included a signed Newcastle United shirt, a signed Newcastle Falcons shirt, vouchers, bottles of wine, tickets to a Newcastle United game and tickets to the We Will Rock You musical.
“We asked everyone on the night to give £5 to enter the raffle with all the proceeds going to the toy library and every one who attended our event gave us £5, which was brilliant.”
