THREE people have been arrested and a number of football shirts recovered after a sports shop was broken into in Ashington.
The Sports Direct store in Woodhorn Road was targeted in the early hours of Tuesday, August 2, and a number of Newcastle United replica football shirts were stolen.
As part of their enquiries officers executed a search warrant at a property in the town’s Sycamore Street and arrested a man, aged 31, on suspicion of burglary and two women, aged 53 and 29, on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
Officers also recovered 17 Newcastle United football shirts at the address.
Acting Detective Inspector Gary Temperley said: “We received a report of a burglary at the store and found football shirts had been stolen.
“Pro-active enquiries were made which resulted in three arrests and the recovery of suspected stolen property. Enquiries are ongoing.”
Those who were arrested have been bailed pending further enquiries.
