POLICE in Ashington are cracking down on disorder this bonfire season.

Officers will be working with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and visiting schools in the area to speak to youngsters about the dangers of playing with fireworks.

Shopkeepers will also be advised of the laws which relate to the selling of fireworks.

Neighbourhood Beat Manager PC Stephen Dunn said: “Although we want people to enjoy themselves we will be taking a strong stance against disorder.

“We are well aware that it is only a small minority of people in the area who cause disorder and we will swiftly punish those who are responsible for any anti-social behaviour as well as those who are funding or supporting it.”

Anyone with information into the illegal selling or use of fireworks is urged to contact police on 03456 043 043 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
